The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said the Technological Incubation Centres of the Ministry established across the country will supply the labour for new investments envisaged to come into the country in the nearest future.
Dr. Onu disclosed this during the commissioning of the Technological Incubation Centre last weekend 6th September,2019 in Lafia, Nasarawa state.
Dr. Onu said that the newly established Incubation Centres will help business/entrepreneur startups, from Micro levels to small, medium and eventually to large business enterprises. He stressed the need for these startups because every major business enterprise started at a micro-level.
In his words “This Centre will help produce the next generation of Dangote's and International business men in Nigeria”.
The Incubation Centre he added, is an important institute which the Ministry is using to commercialize research findings.
He added “ The National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), gathers together all research findings from the Ministry and all other relevant institutions, with the sole aim of commercializing them”. Dr.Onu further said that the key essence of the establishment of these Incubation Centres was simply to ensure and improve productivity in Nigeria.
He further said that the establishment of the Technology Incubation Centre, will help attract investors, which in turn will create more jobs and wealth creation, in line with President Buhari's vision to lift a Hundred million Nigerians out of poverty by the next decade adding that the maximal use of the Centre will be of immense benefits to the citizens of Nasarawa state , creating jobs and attracting much needed foreign investments.
Earlier the Director General of the National Board for Technology Incubation, Engr. Dr. Mohammed Jibrin, described the Technology Incubation Centre as a key government intervention programme to fight unemployment ravaging the country. He further said the center would be essential in the creation of jobs as investment opportunities will stream into the nation to team up with startup enterprises.
He thanked the state government, for her support in actualising the speedy completion of the center, as the state government provided the land, funding and other key logistics. He appealed for additional support of the State Government in the building of an administrative block as well as pick-up Vans and vehicles to aid in the daily logistics of the center”.
Meanwhile the Governor of Nassarawa state Engr. Abdullahi. A. Sule, said the Incubation Centre will help and infact go a really long way in enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of the state and self-reliance..
He reiterated his government's commitment to capacity building of the teeming youths in the state and to position them towards empowerment.
In his words “ we are going to create a technology hub, in close proximity to the nation’s capital , this will further help to generate internal revenue for the state.
The event was well attended by the other government functionaries from state and federal government including traditional institutions.
